Using Google Voice, a technology that was available in 2009, teachers can integrate lessons to maximize the power of its purpose and authentically (and literally) amplify student voice.
The presentation will focus on exploring speech recognition software, specifically Google voice, demonstrating how to effectively dictate text by using clear pronunciation and proper sentence structure, while highlighting its benefits for all students. Voice to speech software can allow them to express ideas more freely and overcome barriers like poor handwriting or spelling issues. We will not only explore the benefits of its use for building writing and speaking confidence but also debate skills. The session will address potential challenges as well, like accuracy with accents and the need for editing and revision after using voice-to-text while also allowing for innovation from participants to share ways they think it might be useful in their own classroom.
